Friday Five

1) Last night, my two best friends and I had a much-needed girls night, and stayed up till after 3 am talking about life and boys and school and summer and everything in general. It was awesome and I really do miss them when I'm away at school. I also miss the sleep I didn't get last night! (Thanks L & K - see, I'm including you in my posts!)

2) I randomly got really swollen lips this week, and looked like an Angelina Jolie wannabe on Sunday night. I didn't even go to work on Monday because I was convinced I looked like Octo-Mom! (yikes!)

3) Tell me how badly you want to be right here right now, because I'm totally with ya! Who's in?  And while you're at it, check out all my new posts on Pinterest. Like this awesome ring, or these amazing cupcakes, or this yummy sight. Do it!
4) I haven't run all week, and I've managed to get every illness possible over the last two weeks (seriously, now I have a runny nose!), but I am determined to go for a run today. After I go home and take a nap, of course!

5) I recently registered for a year of GoDaddy hosting, and am excited (read: so freaking scared) to take the plunge into self-hosting. So that being said, if you know any graphic designers who can design (and preferably install) my blog on wordpress.org for cheap, I'd love recommendations! I don't want to break the bank with my blog, but I definitely need a good job done!

P.S. Bonus! 6) Is anyone as obsessed with Georges Chakra as I am? Seriously, his Spring collection is to die for! Like Kelly Rowland's dress at the Grammy's? Maybe it's just Lebanese pride, but he is fantastic!
Linking up with Lauren today for #H54F.

Happy Friday everyone! It's one of those weeks where I literally wanna shout TGIF!

Wednesday Wisdom

I’ve always loved inspirational and motivational quotes, and even when I was younger and waaay before Pinterest, I would find my favorite quotes and write it in a big purple notebook – one that I still have today. So when Pinterest came around and I found myself obsessed (it didn’t take that long..), one of my first boards was my word to the wise board, and so Wednesday Wisdom was born.

This week's WW:

I always think about what pair of shoes I wanna buy, or this new expensive handbag that I have to have, or how I don't like what's for dinner tonight, and I stop myself. What about those who don't have shoes, or have nothing to put inside a handbag, or can barely afford dinner for themselves or their family tonight. Our generation is a really materialistic one, and I always find myself falling down that path too.. (and it's hard too! We really do want shoes sometimes, and we work hard for them too!) but I always have to remind myself that I am so lucky to have so many things. To have an expensive MacBook to type this on, to have a functioning body, two parents who love me, a large family and a whole lot of friends who would do anything for me. I have two legs, two arms, ten fingers and ten toes. I have a functioning brain, and an amazing university education that I could never re-pay my family for. Sometimes we just need to stop and be grateful for what we have. You never know what you have until it's gone, and these days, nothing in life is guaranteed. So enjoy it while you have it, and appreciate your life every minute of the day, and when you can do charity. Doing something for someone else is the easiest way to find yourself. Guaranteed!

End rant! Happy Hump-Day everyone!

Friday Five

1) Happy National Wear Your Lilly Day! I've been eyeing down some new dresses from Lilly that I just mussst have.
2) A very big welcome to one of my best friends, Sami, to the blog world! It's the most rewarding feeling having someone tell you that you've inspired them to create their own blog. Sami lived on my floor this year, and we wrote for the Chronicle together, and went to the CMA conference in NYC together and shared a room. She's honestly one of my best friends, and one of the most amazing girls who shares a lot of things with me. She's also one of the best people to talk to!
3) Um, HI NEW BLOG COVER AND LOGO! Not sure if you noticed, but I got a little upgrade to my blog, thanks to my great friend Hannah! She was amazing and designed it all by herself, and she hit the nail right on the head with it. (Seriously, how me is that "the" with the heart.. so cute!) I've also been designing my own things, like my EC giveaway photo here, and the Friday Five logo above.
4) I just signed up for this blogger course with Blogelina (the best in the biz!) She teaches you all about how to revolutionize your blog, and she's phenomenal! I've only heard great things about her! Anyways, I've gotten a code to provide my readers with the course FOR FREE! The course is usually $17, and includes a free year of web hosting! But if you enter caromarie217 when they ask you for a code, you'll get the four-week course for free! It's entirely online, and even if you can't make a class (every Tuesday, 8-9pm), she emails you with what you missed! Seriously don't miss out! Click here to sign up!
5) Don't forget to enter my $50 Erin Condren giveaway! Everyone knows how much I love Erin's life planners, so I seriously encourage everyone to click this link and enter! There are 18 chances to have your name in the running, and if you tweet everyday, you get even more chances!

I think it's safe the say how much everyone knows I love Erin Condren and her planners. I think I've mentioned it once or twice before. Her life planners are total perfection, and are fully customized, which I love. Stationery is clearly my thing, and having the chance to customize it completely is like my ultimate dream.  Each planner starts at $50, and the more accessories you add, the higher your price. That's why I've teamed up with Erin Condren to give away a $50 ERIN CONDREN GIFT CERTIFICATE!

Now, don't get me wrong. Erin doesn't just do planners. She makes cards, notebooks, labels, note pads, photos, iphone/ipad/ipod cases, invitations, kindle cases and even sorority stuff! You can get almost anything there, all in super fun colors! So imagine what you would do if you win this little giveaway.

This is my first giveaway, so this is all new to me. How this works is, you follow the link on the image above, or just click here, and enter all the different ways possible. Some are mandatory, some give you optional entries. Then, on Tuesday June 25th at midnight, the drawing will be over, and I'll announce the winner the next day. must-have apps for your iPhone

If there's one issue with today's society, it's our dependence on our phones. Unfortunately, I'm just as guilty. I admit to being addicted to my iPhone - it's practical, fun and can be a cute fashion accessory if you dress it up well enough ;) (p.s. keep your eyes out for a fun new review soon.. wink wink). I don't know how I survived without my iPhone - it controls my calling, my social media, my family chat group (cause we're all spread out all over the world - London, Bristol, Trinidad, Connecticut, New Hampshire, and those are just me and my siblings!), a calculator, calendar, and a million more apps!

1) Facebook, Twitter, Instagram: No iPhone would be complete without these apps - a must have for all your social media needs! Facebook even has a Pages Manager app to control your company's page!

2) PinterestSeriously, there's nothing better for a pinterest addict than to have pinterest at your hands at all times. It's there when I'm bored in the car, laying down in bed or at a commercial break on TV. Seriously best app ever!

3) Candy Crush: DON'T DO IT! I laughed at my friends who played CC until I made the mistake of downloading it myself, and now I'm addicted. Don't say I didn't warn you! It's been a month and I'm stuck on level 29, and I keep threatening to delete the app, but I just can't... seriously.

4) Kindle/E-Reader: If you're addicted to reading like I am, then this app is perfect for you! I did myself the best favor ever and bought myself a Kindle two Christmases ago (the first of many many gifts to myself over the years..), and this app saves me if I'm ever somewhere where I wish I could read but forgot my Kindle. You can even order books right from your phone and read it right away, and the screen is a nice difference to my black and white Touch.

5) Timehop: Blast to the past, anyone? I love Timehop solely because it reminds me of what I tweeted/facebook'd/instagrammed a year/two years/three years ago. It's awesome to see how dumb, or smart, you were years ago! Interestingly enough, my tweets and statuses often pertain to my life today too! Cool, huh?

6) Viber: So if you're like me and you live in one country and go to school in another, then Viber is probably your best friend. I admit the service is spotty at times, but Viber is the lifesaver when you're far away from all of your friends. It's perfect for your summer vacation or your study abroad. You can call or text for free to any number that has Viber - it's a free app too, which is even more awesome! It's my favorite way to keep up with my friends from QU!

7) Flashlight: This one is literally a life-saver, and is my favorite app on my iPhone! I loved it during school when I didn't wanna wake up my roommates. It takes me back to the ME2 Nokia days with the annoying one with the flashlight. It's a must-have app!

What are your must-have iPhone apps?

Wednesday Wisdom

I decided to start a new weekly post I like the call Wednesday Wisdom. Seeing how obsessed I am with Pinterest, I've decided to share my favorite inspirational, motivational and wise quotes here every Wednesday.

I've always loved inspirational and motivational quotes, and even when I was younger and waaay before Pinterest, I would find my favorite quotes and write it in a big purple notebook - one that I still have today. So when Pinterest came around and I found myself obsessed (it didn't take that long..), one of my first boards was my word to the wise board.

So once a week, you'll see my new favorite post: Wednesday Wisdom. I'll be sharing my favorite inspiring quotes here every week! So without further ado:

suicide is not a fashion statement

One of the topics that I saw a lot of today was Vice Magazine's controversial new issue! The "Women in Fiction" issue isn't the controversy itself, but rather the fashion spread - a stark comparison to the empowering short stories, interviews and features about remarkable women in fiction. The fashion spread, styled by Annette Lamothe-Ramos and photographed by Annabel Mehran, features models portraying famous female writers (okay..), who have killed themselves (wait, what?!). At. the. time. of. their. death.

Yes, take your jaw off the floor. Vice decided to showcase the suicides of these illustrious women, and quite visually in some cases. The worst thing, in my opinion, was the fact that they tried to turn it into a fashion feature, citing the clothes worn among the deceased's name, dates of birth and death, and cause of death. Because I want to buy the pair of stockings that they use to showcase Taiwanese author Sanmao's death.

Jenna Sauers, former fashion model herself writes, "It's almost breathtakingly tasteless. Suicide is not a fashion statement." A phrase that has circled the interwebs and fashion blogs alike all throughout the day. The spread features late authors and writers such as Virginia Woolf, Dorothy Parker, Charlotte Perkins Gilman, Sanmao, Elise Cowen, Sylvia Plath and historian Iris Chang.

Below are the pictures. I apologize for insulting anyone by posting these photos.
Charlotte Perkins-Gilman
Dorothy Parker
Elise Cowen
Iris Chang
Sylvia Plath
Virginia Woolf

What many are criticizing the most is Vice's decision to portray historian Iris Chang, who only died in 2004 and leaves behind a now-11 year old son. To see such a visual portrayal of his mother's death, less than ten years later must affect him and other family members in many ways.

Vice soon after removed the post from their website, replacing it with a statement

“Last Words” was created in this tradition and focused on the demise of a set of writers whose lives we very much wish weren’t cut tragically short, especially at their own hands. We will no longer display “Last Words” on our website and apologize to anyone who was hurt or offended.

This isn't the first case of fashion editorials going too far, but hopefully it will be the last. Fashion excuses many things in life, but it in no way promotes suicide or death, and shouldn't ever. I'll say it again: SUICIDE IS NOT A FASHION STATEMENT. Not now, not ever.

What are your opinions on the photos? Do you think they crossed the line with this feature?

when this girl meets world..

girl meeeets wooooorld..

No seriously, I can't tell you how excited I am that Girl Meets World (aka Boy Meets World spin-off) is finally happening! I was excited when the news broke months ago, but ugh Glamour just posted a few sneak-peek pictures and I officially CANNOT contain myself!

The series is apparently set in NYC, which should be really fun to see how Cory and Topanga adjust to city life, after living in Philly suburbs their whole life. I'm also really excited to see how weird and adorable their daughter is, because let's be real, the Topanga/Cory combination is a lethal one, in a good way! I cannot wrap my head around the fact that they're parents (oh God, I'm acting like they're real people!)

Now you get a first look at the series due out in 2014 too! Look at these amazing, awesome, anticipated pictures (any more As?):
Rowan Blanchard (who plays Riley) and Sabrina Carpenter (who plays Riley's BFF Maya)

Riley is so cute, and already has a killer style of her own. I can't wait to see how they let her grow throughout the series. I love that it's a Cory/Shawn best friendship, but in Cory's daughter. Much needed and totally adorable !

Danielle Fishel and Ben Savage looking on at their daughter and her BFF in their pre-teenage glory.

God, they look like a married couple. Topanga is so grown up and is rocking the "I'm a really cute mom" style, and I can't wait to see what fabulous fashion she pulls out living in NYC now!

I just really hope we get to see Shawn at some point.. (because really, Riley needs to meet her Uncle Shawn!)

Is anyone else as excited as I am for this series? 2014 needs to hurry!

Happy Father's Day

"A father should be his son's first hero and his daughter's first love.."

A Father's Day snap to a man who has always been there for me and will forever be my role model, no matter how old I am.

What are you doing for Father's Day?

a prepster's guide to business cards

[this is a sponsored post, however all opinions are my own]

For a while now, I've been told to start making business cards - to promote myself as a journalist and social media director, and to promote my blog as well. I know I need to make them, but it's just so much effort to create a logo, to design a business card and to find a company to make them. That is, until I discovered Sweet Peach Paperie.

Tracy is a mom of three, who decided to turn her blog into a full-time business, and designs and sells invitations for parties, bridal and baby showers, and almost every event you can think of, as well as calling cards, party decorations, photo cards and notecards.

Not only are all of her stuff really cute, but they're also super-easy to order and arrive: it's all done online! With the purchase and payment of your order, Sweet Peach Paperie will customize your files.  The completed PDF files will arrive to your inbox within 24-48 hours.  The files will be completely ready to print at home or they can be forwarded to your local professional print shop.  Print, cut and assemble if needed.  Voila!

Tracy also has a "Preppy Stripe Collection" and a "Preppy Nautical Collection" with calling cards and party decor, and they are to die for. Seriously. It's striped. Ask anyone who knows me and they will say that I own way too many striped clothes and I have a ridiculous obsession with stripes. No, really. So when I collaborated with Tracy and she sent me my own customized calling card, from the preppy stripe collection, I nearly died.

This calling card comes in four different colors: green, red, light pink and bright pink. I ordered mine in the light pink (which, in hind sight, I shouldn't have done seeing as my entire blog is pretty much in bright pink, but the light pink was waaay too cute to pass up on!) Each calling card is sold for $7.50, and within 24-48 hours, is emailed to you, either in pdf or jpeg, depending on which you specify. They have navy blue stripes, and a single-initial monogram in navy blue as well, which I'm obsessed with!

Now these cards are delivered as one-sided calling cards, and can be used as anything from a greeting card, to a gift tag, to a business card to a luggage tag. I'm planning on matching the colors in a photoshop file and adding my information to the back of the card for a super-cute and super-preppy business card.

If you like Tracy's calling card, be sure to check out the rest of her stuff here, and you can contact her if you have any more questions and/or orders! I highly recommend Sweet Peach Paperie for your next party/event/holiday/it's a tuesday/anything haha!

Enjoy! xo caro.

awards and badges

I've been really bad at posting. I swore I'd be better, but I actually suck. Sorry!

I've recently been nominated for an award: the Kreativ Blogger Award *insert round of applause and dramatics* by the lovely Cercalicious.

I'm so honored to have received it, after only recently starting my blog in March after the awesome CMA conference in NYC, and then catching a random writing bug for the rest of my Spring Break vacation. Starting this blog was one of the best decisions I've ever made, and has allowed me to meet so many amazing people, bloggers and companies, get opportunities I would never have otherwise, and inspire people along the way (well, at least that's what they tell me..). No, but seriously, there's no better feeling than getting a message saying that they love my blog and read it religiously, or can relate to my posts, or the best: that I've inspired them to start blogging. But, I'm not that great (obvs), and that's why receiving this award means so much to me.

So now I have to choose a few bloggers who I think run "kreativ" blogs, and I'm basically gonna choose some blogs that I live by. I'm not going to choose the obvious Atlantic-Pacific, Sea of Shoes or Fashion Boulevard (although they all deserve it immensely, I just think they're empire is built up already that receiving an award doesn't count!) I'm gonna choose girls and guys just like me, who have a laptop, and a blog, and something to say, and choose to do it every week, and sometimes every day. So without further ado..

Allie from All Dressed Up, Everywhere to Go: Allie's blog is so cute, she combines fashion with lifestyle and makes for a fun read!

Alex from High Heels and Treadmills: Alex combines fashion, lifestyle and her love for exercise, and shares motivational and inspiring messages to encourage her readers to work out and love themselves.

Hannah from The Fro-Yo Diaries: Hannah is hands-down one of the funniest girls I've met on the blogesphere (that's definitely not a word!). Her blog constantly has me laughing as she gives her take on everyday things. My fave is her Wednesday Flavors of the Week!

Kaity from brownie diaries: I first stumbled across Kaity's blog and realized how cute the layout was - the writing and header drew me in, until I started reading her content and realized how great she is! Seriously!

Lastly, Elyssa from Miss Manhattan: If there was one person living my dream life currently, it would be Elyssa. Living in NYC, writing for a million publications, building her name and blog in the city, and becoming the next Carrie Bradshaw! Ugh perf!

Girls, copy the image above and choose your fave blogs and post it!

On a completely different note, you may notice some new icons in my sidebar. I'm officially an Influenster member, an affiliate for ModCloth, and got accepted to be a member of the IFB (Independent Fashion Bloggers organization). There are a lot of changes in store for TCD and I'm excited to take you along for the ride!

RHL's Dorm Room Must-Haves

[this is a sponsored post by RHL. all thoughts and opinions, however, are my own.]

The summer before college (so basically, this time last year), I spent much of my time freaking out and pinning and freaking out and googling and freaking out some more about my bedroom and my bed and my space and my roommates. I knew I had no control over who my roommates were, and I couldn't choose my living situation, so I was basically hoping for the best.

I seriously pinned everything related to my dorm room. I went crazy. (no seriously, you can see all my pins over here). But dorm room shopping is a lot harder when you're 3000+ miles away from your residence hall, plus you've never seen it before other than minute pictures on the school website, plus you have to wait till you're at least IN the US before you buy it (cause I was definitely not lugging pillows and comforters on a flight with me!)

So when I arrived in CT in August, I was shocked to discover that there was nothing available. Okay, I'm being over-dramatic, but when I found a comforter I liked, I couldn't find a sheet to match, or when I found comfy sheets, I hated the comforter sets. And none of the "bed in a bag" sets fit the description I had insisted on. I learned the hard way that shopping for an XL twin bed set was much harder than I expected, especially two weeks before school began. Oops #internationalstudentproblems. After a two-day search of every bedding/home goods/department store in a 50-mile radius, I managed to find a beautiful Donna Karan bedspread that met all my expectations. I got so lucky.

What I wish I knew was that there were perfect sets of bedding practically waiting for me to order. Flash forward like three months, and I learn about Residence Hall Linens from half of my friends. Apparently, it's the easiest and most convenient website ever created for college students. Well no one told me. Basically, what I missed out on was this amazing bundle of everything a college student needs, not only for their bed, but for their dorm room, at a ridiculously good price.

RHL has bedding, towels, sheets, hampers, bathroom supplies, must-haves and decorative items, all for really great prices. They even have package deals, which still allows you to choose your own bedding and pattern - and really cute ones too, I approve! -, including a fleece blanket (which I definitely needed for that harsh CT winter! Brr!) The Complete Campus Collection is a 26 piece value pack for around $300, which is probably half of which I spent on all of my things (and this includes even more than I bought!)

Did I mention they have decorative pillows? Yeah, they're seriously awesome, and a perfect way to turn your dorm room into your home for the year. They even have this awesome thing called a bedside buddy, which can hold pens, a book, iPod, kindle, or whatever else, or you can put your phone in it while it's charging. It just hangs off the side of your bed, super conveniently. I honestly think I'm ordering one for this year!

Below I've chosen some of my favorite decorative pieces and some of the must-haves for your dorm room from RHL to spruce up your bedroom this year. They're all super cute and super affordable, which are a college student (and their parents') fave things!

Call Home Decorative Pillow
Um, HOW CUTE is this. What a cute reminder to call mom and dad and say hey, and also spruce up your room at the same time?

What Would Mom Say? Decorative Pillow
HAHA! With college comes freedom, and with freedom comes decisions. and sometimes bad choices. This one is a cute reminder of what your mom would say if she saw you with that beer in your hand, or making out with that frat boy in the corner. Mother always knows..

Peacock Decorative Pillow
As Katy said, "I wanna see your peacock, cock, cock.." and this peacock pillow adds some color and fun to your room! Plus the neutral colors can blend in with your roommates set too!

Rhino Armor Large Storage Trunk
This one's probably gonna be a lifesaver. You can keep your boots, coats, winter clothes or summer clothes in them when they're not in season, or use it as an additional set of drawers and put shoes or clothes in it. The best part about it is that it's sturdy and can be used as a seat or stool when friends come over to hang out. You can never have enough seats in a dorm room.

Colorful Trash Cans

The most important thing behind a college trashcan is MAKE SURE IT'S A SOLID TRASHCAN AND NOT THE ONE WITH HOLES. I repeat, AVOID THE TRASH CAN WITH THE HOLES! You (and your roommate) will thank you when there's no throw up all over your floor/seeping out of the trash bag. The solid cans will contain all your bodily liquids (let's hope there aren't too much!), and are easily washable!

Dry Erase Wall Calendar

Last, but certainly not least, this dry-erase wall calendar is a must! College schedules get really hectic at times, and plans change often, so having a whiteboard as a calendar allows you to change dates accordingly, while still laying out your week and month so you can see when that big psych test you haven't even started studying for is!

College, especially freshman year, is the time of your life! Enjoy it, step out of your comfort zone, meet people you'd never speak to regularly and keep an open mind! It'll be the best year you've ever had, I guarantee!

Luckily for you, RHL is here to help. Don't forget to check their website for all your dorm room needs before heading off to college this summer! It makes it so much easier! So easy that they're giving readers a $20 off on bedding coupon. Just enter SAVE20RHL at checkout!

This is a sponsored post, funded by Residence Hall Linens.

Friday Five

Thank GOD It's Friday! This week felt like it was never-ending, and I have the headaches to prove it. I missed last week's F5 because it was a public holiday, so this is gonna be a double session. Friday ten?

1) Last week were two public holidays in Trinidad that fell on the same day - Corpus Christi and Indian Arrival Day, so the lovely government decided to give us both Thursday and Friday off. It was glorious. I spent Friday down de islands with some family, and it was awesome just relaxing, tanning and reading my book!

2) I watched every episode of The Carrie Diaries this week. Then I cried for the finale and sent B a lot of text messages at 3 am. And by a lot, I mean 25. I'm not even joking (so much so that he later made a Carrie/Maggie/Sebastian reference!) PLUS, it got renewed for a second season and I'm ecstatic (in case you couldn't already tell..)

3) Work is in full swing. That's pretty much all I've been doing all week.

4) There was a Sex and the City marathon last night. Enough said. Can I be her?

5) Two of the most amazing people I've met at Quinnipiac (and call my best friend and sister) met up last night in CT and sent me a pic. I'm SO jealous I wasn't there!

6) I've partnered up with Black Sheep Postal to offer my readers a FREE card before tonight at midnight. Just enter the code caro diaries at checkout, and it's FO FREEEE!

7) I've officially decided to join the Smart Girl's Group - can't wait to start writing for them!

8) Erin Condren. Yes, THE Erin Condren (okay, maybe I'm too obsessed!) pinned my article about her planners. Brb, I'm dying! (And while you're there, follow me on Pinterest)

9) I made some updates to my blog. Okay, now I'm just adding things to add to this post, but I got 8, so I just need two more!

10) How cute is this checkbook? I totally want one. This explains me. I swear I don't have a problem, I'm just being super generous and helping out the economy. God knows it's needs help!

I'm sorry for my sad excuse of pictures today. I still need to get Photoshop back on my laptop, so I used a free iPhone app for that one (ugh!)

Happy Friday, y'all!

Limited Time Offer: FREE card (with free shipping) from Black SheepPostal Service

As much as I love my iPhone and MacBook, nothing beats a good old-fashioned letter. But who has time for that these days? Ain't nobody got time for that.. That's why Black Sheep Postal Service was created: to make sending greetings easier, and cheaper. And if it's two things I love it's easy and cheap. (Hey, I'm a college student, what do you expect?)

Black Sheep offers these beautifully designed, fun colored postcards, which are hand-cut and hand-silkscreened all from their headquarters in California. Plus, they're cute. Did I say that already? Not only do they come in like fifteen million colors (I'm exaggerating..), but they also come with the cutest stamps (Justin, the owner, handpicks each and every stamp - no boring Presidents for you - sorry Honest Abe!)

The best part about it is that Black Sheep will write your message AND deliver it for you. So if you wanna say hi to a certain friend/blogger who lives all the way in the Caribbean, it's super easy (wink wink).

Now, I first discovered Black Sheep Postal a little while before Mother's Day. I was really upset I was missing it (the first time I ever had), and I wanted nothing more than to be back home with my mom, rather than studying for finals. I didn't really believe that they could deliver the card to Trinidad, so I just signed up for the hell of it, and sent a stupid message to my mother, 100% believing it'll never reach her. A couple days later, my mom calls to thank me for my beautiful card. Yes, they shipped it all the way to Trinidad. For FREE. Not even joking.

BSPS was such a hit with me (and my mom) that I decided to team up with them and offer my readers a discount (and by discount, I mean totally free!) All you have to do is go to the website, click "send a card", customize it to your heart's desire, fill out your info and on the billing page enter the code and BAM, you're done. Free card sent. No worries about shipping or billing. Just sent.

Enjoy your free card! The code will be available to you until Friday at midnight, so GET ON IT!

Once again, head over to Black Sheep Postal between now and Friday at midnight, enter the code, and get ready to send your free card - super cute! Please only use the code once per person.

If you're wondering how Justin makes these awesome cards, be sure to click here to read all about it, and see some more pics over here.

Don't forget to post below and tweet me (@caromarie217) with your new (free) (awesome) cards! Enjoy :)

this discount code is no longer applicable and has been removed as the offer has expired.

obsessed with erin

Today's the day I've been waiting for since she made her big announcement, but Erin Condren finally released her life planners for 2013-2014, and I am dying.

Not only are these planners totally customizable, they're also perfect for holding everything. I've only heard amazing things about the Erin Condren planners, and they even have planners specifically for teachers, mothers and nutritionists. Seriously, take a look at what this thing can do!

I've fallen in love and I can't help it, except for the hefty price I'll be paying because of all of my added stationery. But really, I need the matching adhesive notebooks, the colorful pens and the pen holder - and God forbid if I forget about the custom stickers I added. I'm addicted and I just can't get enough. My $50 planner just turned into a $90+ planner, but it's worth it right? Early birthday gift to myself, maybe? Like a month and a half early? Anyways, here are some of my faves that released today: Favorite Things:
The "favorite things" planner asks you to list all of your favorite things (duh!) which is listed in various colors in the background on the planner's cover - cue Julie Andrews and a thunderstorm. Instagram:
"Instagram" allows you to add your favorite instagram (or it could be any) photo to the cover, with your name (or whatever you wish to have on the front cover) written in loopy script along the side. It's super cute, but I'm way too indecisive to choose a photo.  Zig Zag:
Zig Zag comes in three color choices: multi, turquoise and pink, and they're all adorable. Chevron is one of my favorite trends right now, so to have a "chevron" planner is totally adorable. Viva EspaƱa - Chevron:
I am personally obsessed with this one, and am stuck between this and one other. Between the chevron and the color combination, this one just screams Caro, and I want it! Initial:
The last of the classic life planners that I'm obsessed with is the initial. If it's anything I love more than stripes and chevron, it's my monogram. Unfortunately, Erin doesn't make monograms so I'll take the next best option: my initials. I love this one mainly because if you buy the matching notebooks (that conveniently stick right in the back of your planner for any random thoughts and ideas), it has my initials at the bottom of the page. It's seriously one of the only reasons I'm leaning towards this one. And another fun surprise, she announced a new GOLD line of planners. Like seriously dipped in gold, with gold flakes in the planner itself. I'm in love.

Which planners are you obsessed with? Maybe I'm too much of a stationery whore, but I cannot wait to order mine. Or maybe not order it myself and get it as a gift for my birthday (hint hint, mom and dad!) Guess I made my choice in the Erin/Lilly battle. Sorry Lilly, I still love your clothes.

Interview with a "Bright and Sassy" Bobkitten

I love fashion and I love Quinnipiac. So, when I found out Alexa  from Bright and Sassy is a bobcat alumna, I had to interview her. Alexa is stylish, smart and fabulous: three things I'd like to think represents QU well! Here's what she had to say below:

I’m Alexa, and I write the fashion blog “Bright and Sassy.”  I just completed graduate school and can’t wait to pursue my career as a (fashionable) teacher.

TCD: Why did you start "Bright and Sassy"?
I started my blog the summer after I graduated from college. I was in this awkward transition in my life (as most of you probably can relate to), and I wasn't sure what was next. I went to the Alexander McQueen exhibit at The Met in New York City and wrote my first blog post about it that night. I've always looked at other blogs for inspiration so I thought, "Why not me?"

TCD: You went to Quinnipiac (woohoo, Bobcats!!), how has it played a role in making you who you are today? Has QU influenced your fashion or writing style whatsoever?
I had such a great experience at Quinnipiac and am so proud to be an alumna. Quinnipiac played a role in me growing up, living on my own, and forming new relationships. At the beginning of college, I was a bit lost, but by the end, I completely found myself, my passion, and made the most amazing friends.
As for fashion, Quinnipiac really proved that individual style is cool. I was the opposite of most girls at school and would always dress up for class. You would rarely see me in sweats, even in my night classes!

TCD: What were you involved in at QU?
I was involved in a few clubs at Quinnipiac — my favorite being Habitat for Humanity.  I also worked in the inner city schools in New Haven, CT.  This is where I decided that I wanted to pursue teaching as a future career.

TCD: How did you end up in Florida for grad school?
When I made the decision to pursue my Masters, I thought Florida would be such a fun change.  I was born and raised in Connecticut and went to college there, so I was ready for something fresh and new. Now that I’ve completed my Masters, I’m ready to go home.  Living in Florida for the past two years has made me realize I’m a New England girl forever.

TCD: Okay, back to the clothes! Who are your fashion inspirations?
AB: So many! I read other fashion blogs for inspiration (my favorites are “We Wore What,” “Cheetah is the New Black,” “Atlantic-Pacific”). I also look to celebrities for outfit inspiration. I love Jessica Alba, Rachel Zoe, Nicole Richie, and Olivia Palermo — just to name a few.
I’m inspired by street style as well. I love seeing girls who have unique, individual style, who rock it with confidence.  Other inspirations are magazines, and, of course, New York City.

TCD: How do you get dressed everyday - what's your regular routine?
My personal style truly reflects my mood and is ever evolving.  When getting dressed for work, my outfits are always planned the night before to make the morning a little more seamless. Other than that, I don’t have a regular routine besides stand in my closet and hope for the best!

TCD: What's your go-to outfit?
AB:  My go-to outfit for daytime is a maxi skirt, a chambray top, sandals, ray bans, and a carry all tote! For night, my go-to look is black jeans, a silk blouse (usually Rebecca Taylor), and leather!

TCD: Do you have any advice for readers on style?
My style advice for readers is to wear what makes you feel comfortable.  If you can’t decide what your personal style is, experiment. Fashion should be fun, not stressful. Confidence is key.

Alexa is an awesome blogger, with an enviable style and closet (no, seriously - her clothes are stunning!) Be sure to check out her blog and "like" her on Facebook to see more of her photos and posts.

fall in love with fall out boy

It was the summer of 2005 when my older sister introduced me to Fall Out Boy. I was just 11 and she, (a whopping 13 years older than me), spent an entire summer home - the first time since she'd done her Bachelor's and Master's in the US - in between graduation and the start of her new job. It was this summer that she walked into "Just CDs", a local CD shop where all of my allowance disappeared to, and purchased (another) copy of From Under The Cork Tree. Because she was 13 years older than me, N practically raised me. Shortly after she got her license, she adopted me as her "errand buddy" and I was forced to sit in the passenger seat while she got groceries, picked up and dropped my other siblings elsewhere and hung out with her friends. It was during these years that we began chanting Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears (it was a long time ago, don't judge!) lyrics, making up dances along the way. So, when she returned for the summer of 2005, we picked up right where we left off, with Fall Out Boy's now-double platinum CD. To say we were obsessed would not be an exxageration. This was the summer we were convinced that Fall Out Boy were, and I quote, "modern day poets". Though she moved back to the US, and we never had another full summer like that one, every time we were together - driving anywhere - we would return to the trusty old FOB album (this time via iPods) and chant and sing as if we were at a concert. When Fall Out Boy announced their "indefinite hiatus" in 2009, my heart broke. I never got the chance to see them in concert and I couldnt' have been more upset that my favorite band (in big contrast to the Miley Cyrus, Jonas Brothers and other pop nightmares I obsessed over) was breaking up. Various articles cited Patrick and Pete both stating that the band was never getting back together. So imagine my surprise on Monday February 4th when N called me in the middle of her work-day to inform me that FOB was officially back together and their song was phenomenal. I almost cried, I'm not even kidding. I was at lunch with my BQF and she could probably attest to my girlish squeals. Thus, "My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark (Light Em Up)" was dropped, and Save Rock and Roll was announced, along with a worldwide tour starting this summer. Unfortunately, I didn't manage to get tickets, but I'm still holding out hope for Mohegan in September! When Save Rock and Roll was finally released, it arrived safely to my iPhone (thanks to iTunes and pre-ordering), and I took a listen for the first time. It was a different sound, one I wasn't used to, but a mature one. The band had grown in so many ways, and their music reflected it. The best part of it all was that Fall Out Boy wrote on their website that Save Rock and Roll was secretly recorded for a year and a half - a secret I have no idea how they managed to keep hush-hush. The surprising choices for collaborations only add to the changed sound of the band, and to the awesomeness (that's not even a word, right?) that is Save Rock and Roll. With names like Big Sean, Courtney Love and Elton John starring on the album, SR&R is one that aims to please, and it does just that.
Here are some of my faves:
1) The Phoenix:
With Stump screaming "put on your war paint" as the song begins, with dramatic transitions and a catchy beat, The Phoenix is just the start I was expecting from FOB.  2) My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark (Light Em Up):
Catchy, a little pop-punky and a great hook, this song was an obvious pick for their first single in true FOB style. 3) Alone Together:
This is one of their more pop-py songs on the album, and although I didn't love it at first, it's grown on me and added to my summer playlist. 4) Where Did The Party Go:
Another fave of mine - this one flows effortlessly with summer-y lyrics and a catchy beat. 5) Miss Missing You:
Another one that took me a few listens before I liked it, but with intense lyrics, this one is a winner. Seriously, take a listen to these lyrics. Classic FOB! 6) Save Rock and Roll:
The namesake of the album is just as good as I expected and with Elton John on this track, and some catchy lyrics ("in a world full of the word yes, I'm here to scream no!"). Plus how can you turn down Elton's voice? Ugh <3 So take a listen to Save Rock and Roll. It's a great one, and a big part of my summer playlist. Even FOB affectionately said in a blog post: "we made this music for ourselves and no one else at the end of the day. This is meant to be played loud, with the windows down on summer nights." And that it will be.. Luckily for you FOB lovers, my blogger friend and fellow HCBN member Naomi from Confessions of a Twenties Girl is having an amazing giveaway of two signed Fall Out Boy CDs from when she got to meet and interview them at her amazing summer internship. To enter, click here and follow the instructions. While you're there, be sure to follow her blog: she's phenomenal! Save Rock and Roll is only here to show you that Fall Out Boy's back and better than ever!
